Top AI Computing Applications for 2024 and Beyond

AI computing is a hot topic these days, and artificially intelligent solutions are an increasingly common site in work and life. But how will these solutions be deployed in the current years? Join us as we explore IoT computing, edge computing deployment, and other applications for 2024 and beyond.

Internet of Things Networks

Internet of Things (IoT) computing is gathering pace throughout 2024 and beyond. This is essentially the process of turning inanimate objects into smart network components. From thermostats and door sensors that feed information back to a central hub to smart manufacturing solutions that monitor the product development process, IoT-enabled computing devices are everywhere.

But this is leading to problems:

  • With so many IoT computing devices deployed in the field, how are these devices managed and integrated into the broader network?
  • With so much data produced by these devices, how do organizations stay on top of the volume?
  • And with so many insights delivered from IoT networks, how do organizations ensure the right information is delivered to the right places?

AI computing solutions are going to play a big role here. Artificial intelligence can handle many of the repetitive tasks associated with network management. Smart technology can also screen and edit datasets to make them more useful for businesses — and even route the data insights to where they need to be.

Edge Computing Deployment

Edge computing is a concept that brings computer solutions closer to the source of the data they need. A popular example of edge computing is found in an autonomous vehicle or self-driving car. Here, the source of the data is the outside world — weather conditions, other road users, and similar phenomena.

As the data processing and interpretation solutions are built into the vehicle itself, they are close to these data sources – this is edge computing in action.

This concept has a great many benefits. It decreases the latency of data processing, essentially enabling real-time decision-making and improving flexibility and agility. This is going to be a key application for artificially intelligent technology in the coming years as edge computing networks become more widely used.

Optimized IT Infrastructure

In the data age, IT infrastructure is growing more complex. With information flowing across networks in ever greater volumes, business owners need to be able to design these networks with efficiency and effectiveness in mind.

At the same time, they need to make sure that the network is capable of producing the results it needs. End users now have high expectations of their IT infrastructure, and these must be met.

AI is going to be vital here, as it will enable different parts of the IT infrastructure to communicate with one another. This makes information delivery and sharing far more efficient, even across more complex networks.

AI computing is also useful in the design of the network itself. Artificial intelligence can be used to model different network setups and configurations, identifying the best possible design. Businesses will be able to save time, money, and effort with these smart modeling processes.

Unified Cloud Computing Systems

Cloud computing systems are nothing new, as they have been widely deployed in many different capacities for a number of years. However, businesses are increasingly relying on more complex cloud networks – multicloud systems with data distributed across digital locations.

Just like with some of the other applications on this list, the problem here lies with data. These different cloud platforms and structures need to be able to share data with one another, and they need to do it securely, swiftly, and reliably. This can be a real concern, particularly as the volume of data expands.

Again, artificial intelligence is the answer. AI not only supports effective communication between systems but also enables reliable data organization and management. All of this ensures that multicloud structures become more viable options for businesses, helping organizations avoid potential security risks or sharing inefficiencies.

Augmented Human Intelligence

Not all of the top applications of artificial intelligence are linked to data processing, sharing, and management. Augmenting human intelligence is going to be a significant trend too.

In recent years, there has been real anxiety over the role of humans in an increasingly AI-dominated world. While these concerns are legitimate, AI does not necessarily need to replace humans in the workplace. Instead, business owners need to work to balance the interests of their human personnel with the advantages of AI and create an environment in which the two forms of intelligence work together.

Doctors and other medical professionals are already using generative AI to support and enhance their understanding in the field. These professionals are still vital in bringing their own expertise and capabilities to the table. AI is not replacing them, but it is improving patient results.

Another example is found in customer service. Service personnel are still required to answer complex customer questions and give consumers the support and reassurance they need from another human. However, a chatbot that answers simpler queries can significantly reduce their workload and improve the end-user experience.

Industrial Simulations

The last example on this list is industrial simulation. Manufacturing businesses waste significant amounts of money and resources through industrial processes such as welding and material joining. If there is a mistake in these processes, the business needs to start over, and this harms its bottom line and also impacts environmental sustainability.

Users can also be put at risk if faulty products are not picked up during inspections.

An AI-powered simulation can provide the solution. Smart simulations achieve highly accurate results and can be customized according to different parameters and input variables. Teams can identify potential problems before they occur, eliminating the need for wasted resources and do-overs.
